Last week, Pop’n’Pour partnered with Turkuaz for a truly special evening—an exploration of Turkish wines paired with Deniz’s incredible menu. This unique wine and food extravaganza gave guests the opportunity to travel through 10,000 years of winemaking history without ever leaving Eastbourne. From the very first glass, it was clear that Turkish wines deserve their place on the world stage. For many, the evening began with a question we’ve often heard: “Can Turkey really make good wine?” By the end of the night, the answer was a resounding yes.
On the evening of 18th July, over 40 guests gathered at the Lansdowne Hotel for a celebration of French flavour, finesse, and friendship. A French Wine Pairing Dinner which was Melissa’s first evening since taking the helm of Pop n Pour and was based on her tour around France in June. From sparkling beginnings to a decadent sweet finish, each wine was selected to reflect the character of a French region and perfectly paired with a seasonal, French-inspired menu.
A little about Melissa, the new Pop ‘n’ Pour owner!
Friday 13 turned out to be a great date for a wine tasting! No need for superstition as all the wines were delicious. We had a white, rosé and red Malbec – if you haven’t tried the white and the rose before – its well worth it!
The wine industry in this country is growing (forgive the pun!) by the day! Our climate is now perfect for growing cool climate grape varieties that produce the highest quality white wine grapes and there are also innovators who are trialling red wine grape varieties too.
Our dinner will be three courses each with an accompanying glass of wine from some of the lesser known vineyards of the Loire. Ian visited the Saumur region earlier this year and returned with the selection chosen for the dinner.
The next few weeks will determine how well the bunches of grapes ripen on the vines or become the food for wasps and birds and other thieves of the harvest. Many vineyards will be keeping a very keen eye on how the grapes are developing.
Our next Pop & Pour event will be on Friday 20 September. We’ll be exploring Portugal this month. This small country has a major wine industry and following a very turbulent history both politically and from a wine production point of view has now come of age.
