Oktoberfest is often synonymous with beer, but this evening proved that Germany’s wines deserve the spotlight too. Guests joined us at The Lansdowne Hotel for a festive night of fine wine, great company, and Bavarian-inspired food.
Guests were welcomed with a sparkling start before exploring the diversity and craftsmanship of Germany’s wine regions:
Louis Guntrum Riesling Brut, Rheinhessen, 2018 – A crisp and elegant sparkling Riesling, lively with green apple and citrus zest — the perfect festive opener. (Waitrose)
Junge Winzer Grauburgunder, Baden, 2018 – Made by a new generation of young winemakers, this Pinot Gris offered subtle pear, almond, and mineral notes with a smooth, dry finish. (Lidl)
Johann Wolf Pinot Noir, Pfalz, 2022 – Silky and fruit-forward, showing ripe cherry and soft spice, a wonderful expression of Germany’s cool-climate reds. (Waitrose)
Mineralstein Cabernet Franc, Pfalz, 2023 – Vibrant and modern, with juicy redcurrant and herb aromas balanced by gentle tannins and a mineral backbone. (Wellbrook Wine Merchants)
Dr. Loosen Riesling Beerenauslese, Mosel, 2018 – The perfect finale: a golden, luscious dessert wine rich with honey, apricot, and marmalade, showcasing the Mosel’s world-class sweetness and acidity. (Laithwaites)
Each wine revealed another side of Germany — from the bright, limestone slopes of the Rheinhessen to the steep, slate vineyards of the Mosel.

As always, we raised a glass for a cause, supporting The Children’s Respite Trust, whose work continues to make a lasting difference for local families. We raised £205 in the raffle and then Deliciously Sweet matched this so we made a total of £410!!
Guests also enjoyed a wonderful dark chocolate truffle from Deliciously Sweet Chocolates!
Our final event of the year promises to sparkle:
28th November – The Sparkling Black-Tie Event, an evening of elegance, bubbles, and celebration.
Until then — Prost! 🍷🇩🇪
